Passion pays for Freya

It’s only June but Year 12 student Freya has already gained conditional acceptance into the Bachelor of Counter Terrorism Security & Intelligence at ECU. Her task now is to continue to work hard, complete her Cert lV and aim for an A in General English

“This uni course has everything I want,” Freya said, “It could lead to work with the Federal Police or the ADF – lots of different careers.

“I love crime, it’s a real passion of mine. When I was young I was a big fan of NCIS and had the box set of DVDs. Mum was in the police force and used to tell us stories, her work seemed so interesting. Dad was in the Navy so they both had defence force type roles and that’s probably what sparked my interest.”

Freya says coming to North Lake was one of the best decisions she has made. “I had an easy transition. The support system is great at North Lake but there’s freedom as well so you’re ready for the outside world.”

She remains surprised by the progress she’s made this year in particular. “I’ve gone from a D to an A in Maths. It gives you confidence when you do well and see that your teachers want to see you do well.  You think, I can do this – this is what can come out of it.”
