Neamat’s Story

Neamat Nabiya spent four years at North Lake and some times it was tough. But it was also transformational getting him on the path to his dream career.

“I came to the Intensive English Centre in 2009 with no English and I knew no one. Some days I was crying because I didn’t think I would make friends.” Neamat explained, “Slowly I learned English and I learned not to make trouble and I became happy and made good friends.” Neamat recently qualified as a flight attendant after finishing his Aviation certificate at Polytechnic West’s Aerospace Training Centre in Jandakot.

At North Lake, he completed the Hospitality course and gained a traineeship from the Hospitality Training Group. He also did work experience at Sizzler. “When they saw how I worked they gave me a job,” Neamat said, “I’ve been working there for four years.”

After he left North Lake Neamat took a gap year and worked two jobs at once – at Sizzler and Crown. He still works at Sizzler in Kelmscott and attends his training course three days a week.

“I like everything about my course. It’s fun and it’s new,” Neamat said, “It’s like hospitality in the air. I’ll need to get experience with domestic airlines and then I hope to get a job with an international like Emirates and get paid to go around the world and have fun.”

Neamat’s message to current students is not to waste time. “I never thought I would be this successful and that my dream would come true but it is, slowly,” he said, “If you work hard it will pay off. You are the driver of your own life.”
