A sometimes forgotten consequence of clearing land for housing, industry or agriculture is the loss of habitat for native birds and animals.
Mike’s classes in the workshops this year have been involved in projects that tied in perfectly with North Lake’s focus on sustainability. Using eco-friendly timbers the Year 11 General Workshop class made large bat and bird boxes while the IEC woodwork class created small bird boxes.
The boxes come in different sizes and styles to suit various species and provide shelter and nesting areas. They were on display at the Sustainability Week market and will soon be providing sanctuary for the local bird and bat species around campus.
