A welcome visitor to our stand at the Skills West Expo was Kevin who came to Australia from Malaysia and completed the IEC course followed by Year 11 and 12 at North Lake.
Kevin enjoyed great success at North Lake. He was awarded a Rotary Club of Booragoon Endeavour Scholarship in 2008 and was the the winner of the Caltex All-rounder and the Business award at the 2009 valedictory. He also had a lot of fun including playing footy in a multicultural carnival at Fremantle Oval. He kicked a few goals that day and met legendary Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy. “Young Kevin met old Kevin,” he said at the time.
Kevin worked in many areas after leaving school including sales, hospitality and retail. He also studied accountancy at Murdoch University. While at Murdoch Kevin completed an exchange at Algoma University in the city of Sault Ste Marie in Canada.
He now works as an account officer at Crown Perth based in Burswood. “I’m enjoying the work at Crown, it’s very interesting, but maybe in the future I’ll try something else – if I do change then running my own business is at the top of my list,” he said.
“I still miss my time at North Lake,” Kevin said. “It’s the place I grew up in with education and it was great making friends with a bunch of people from different countries. There have been ups and downs in between but they were good times.”
There are good times ahead for Kevin too. He’ll return to Malaysia for a short time in December to be married.
