Jess Gillam

December 16, 2022

Jess joined North Lake Senior Campus at the beginning of 2020. When Jess enquired about enrolling at North Lake she was already heavily involved with her horse riding. She sought a learning environment that would allow her to continue this pursuit, whilst completing her senior schooling.
“I was looking for a school that could be flexible and allow me to continue my commitments associated with my horse riding. North Lake’s flexibility provided myself with the opportunity to continue my riding commitments and studies, empowering me to strive to be best I can.”
Jess rides before school, training with a focus on dressage and showing, at her agistment centre in Wandi. Despite this time commitment, she has successfully combined this with a Certificate II Retail traineeship and senior school studies. Jess has had several horsing accidents in her time at North Lake, but her tenacity to get through difficult situations, is a credit to her persistence. Recently, Jess was a feature article in the Australian Arabian Horse news being recognised as an upcoming youth that ride and own Arabians across Australia.
Jess successfully completed her WACE certificate and was awarded the Ampol Best All-rounder Award at the 2021 Valedictory Ceremony. Jess will continue her training in Certificate III in Animal Studies into 2022 and a has long term goals of becoming a Veterinarian, specialising in horse reproduction.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge and understand that Elders, parents, families and communities are the first educators of their children and we recognise and value the cultures and strengths that Aboriginal children bring to the classroom. Aboriginal people have a long tradition of teaching and learning through sharing their connections with country, community, language and culture, and through their oral histories, stories and lived experiences that are passed from generation to generation. We recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal children bring with them from their homes and communities into the classroom.
