North Lake performed well in the Africa Downunder soccer cup played at Langley Park on 5 September. The soccer tournament is part of the Africa Downunder Conference, a major forum for Africa-Australian business relations.
Coaches Sean and Judy went with the male and female teams while Paula took things a step further. She accompanied a couple of players to the shops in the city to buy boots and gloves for goalies. Lolyong came along to support the teams after he’d finished work.
Africa Downunder is fun but difficult for the North Lake teams because they generally play against more mature teams who play together regularly. This year’s performance was the best yet. In the male section North Lake beat South Sudan 4-0 in the first match and went on to win three out of their five games.
This was the first year North Lake has entered a female team. They weren’t able to win a game but have started something for students in the future.
