Looking for Positives

The Positive Education Committee has been formed in 2017 as part of the school’s commitment to implement positive education at North Lake. This is the beginning of a process and we have started with a group of committed staff who are willing to meet to plan strategies for 2017 and beyond.

The members are Mary Margetts, Cherryl Armstrong, Nadia Lekias, Judy Natale, Charlie Brett, Sean Bruce-Cullen, James Carroll and Linda Kwok. The committee is very keen to hear ideas from students and staff about what could help North Lake cater for staff and student wellbeing even more successfully than it now does.

Note: Positive education has been defined as “education for both traditional skills and for happiness” (Professor Martin Seligman et al., 2009). A group from the Australian Psychological Society suggested a broader definition: “applied positive psychology in education”. Positive psychology itself has been defined as “…an umbrella term encompassing theory and research in relation to what makes life worth living.” (Noble & McGrath, 2008)
