When Dylan came to North Lake this year, he was well prepared. He had completed an eight-day tester course at Austal Ships in Henderson over the Christmas holidays and enrolled in an automotive course at TAFE in Kwinana.
“I enrolled in Industrial Studies because I like working with my hands, making stuff and seeing the finished product,” he told North Lake News. Dylan was rewarded for his industrious approach recently when he was offered a cabinet making apprenticeship at Austal Ships. “We are working on three-storey boats so there is lots for cabinet makers to do like fitting out bedrooms and cabins,” he said. “I expect to be doing a lot of cleaning of bedrooms in the early part of my apprenticeship!”
Dylan said he was enjoying life at North Lake. “It’s different. There are good people here and you just get on with your work.”
