Carrie and Michelle joined the staff at North Lake during Term three and into Term four as a practical part of their university studies.

Carrie, who is completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Work at ECU, organised and ran basketball tournaments, ran mindfulness and bracelet making sessions in the library and was active during R U OK? Day and Sustainability Week – all aimed at improving student engagement and building relationships. She also worked with Deb in her Multicultural Futures role helping IEC students settle into Australia, and with Student Services and the Wellness Centre.

My time at North Lake has been a great learning experience and I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and the students. It has been a welcoming environment and I have particularly enjoyed seeing what an alternative learning experience can do for young people.

Michelle is a third year Social Work student from ECU South West. She has worked in the Wellness Centre supporting students who are looking to develop their life skills in areas such as employment, housing and legal support along with social and emotional wellbeing. It was through Michelle that The Willetton Butcher came on as a sponsor for our Breakfast Club. She was also conspicuous for her efforts during R U OK? Day and Sustainability Week.

I have loved being at North Lake and working with the amazing youth here, and I have felt so welcomed by staff and students alike!
